The practical 30-year experience of MICROTECH® toolmakers allowed them to establish optimization criteria when choosing cutters, taking into account real factory operating conditions (outdated equipment with increased runout, deviation from milling and maintenance regulations, low-quality coolants, deviations of the part material from the regulated physical and chemical parameters, subjective factor), which requires the tool used to have high stability and technological stability in the process of heavy unstable milling.
In our opinion, cutters made of high-speed steel with a high content of tungsten should be used, which guarantees high hardness and cutting properties of the cutter at elevated cutting temperatures (red hardness) and a given cutting edge geometry.
In Kharkov in 2005-2007. production of high-resistance MICROTECH® milling cutters made of R9M3Kh4F high-speed high-tungsten steel (European analogue of R18) was started in the ISO 9001:2000 quality system:
- end mills with 3-5 teeth with a cylindrical shank according to the European standard DIN 844;
- end mills with 3-5 teeth with a conical shank according to the European standard DIN 845;
- key cutters (2 teeth) with a cylindrical shank according to the European standard DIN 327;
- key cutters (2 teeth) with a conical shank according to the European standard DIN 326;
- European assortment of cut-off cutters with a diameter of 32-250 mm, a thickness of 0.2-6.0 mm, with a number of teeth from 40 to 160.
